Basics

Introduction

  • FFA the Future Farmers of America was founded in 1928. The mission of the young farmers was to prepare future generations for the challenges of feeding an ever-growing population. FFA however, is not just for production farmers. It welcomes members who are aspiring for careers in fields such as teaching, medical, and business. The name of the organization was updated in 1988 to the National FFA Organization. “The National FFA Organization provides leadership, personal growth and career success training through agricultural education. (Organization, 2021).” There are over 735,000 FFA members, aged 12-21, in 8,817 chapters in all 50 states, as well as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • FFA is structured on three levels. Local FFA Chapters are chartered in any public school with an agricultural education program. Second is the State FFA Associations which are made up of local chapters. Finally, is the National FFA Organization. At the national level, FFA is led by a board of directors and six student national officers. These individuals work together to act on recommendations from the national convention       delegates and agricultural education’s stakeholders, setting the policy for FFA (Organization, 2021).
  • FFA programs are funded through sponsorships and individual donations at the local, state, and national levels. National dues are also paid by each member at $7 per year (Organization, 2021).
