The organization's official name is the National FFA Organization. The letters “FFA” stand for Future Farmers of America. FFA is a youth organization that changes lives and prepares members for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education (Organization, 2021).
FFA helps members discover their talent through hands-on experiences, which give members the tools to achieve real-world success. FFA is an intracurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. It is one of the three components of agricultural education (Organization, 2021).
I chose this topic as it holds a special place in my life and my heart. I was a member of the FFA organization throughout high school. I served as my chapter Sentinel, Reporter, and President, as well as the Vice President for my district. I, unfortunately, was unable to run for a state officer position, but I continue to cherish what I took away from the experience in FFA. I grew as an individual, I was given responsibility, I was able to attend Summer Leadership Camp, travel to Indianapolis for the national convention, and I also learned how to speak in public. During my membership, I made friends, most of which I still speak to today, nearly fifteen years later. If there was ever an organization that allowed me to feel equal to my male counterparts, it was the FFA. I hope many more individuals get the opportunity to grow and learn from the amazing experiences that come with being a member of the FFA.
